Chechen resident acquitted by jury is held by MIA, his relatives assert
Alvi Abdurakhmanov, a resident of Chechnya, who was detained by law enforcers after his acquittal in court, is held in Grozny in one of the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). This was reported by his family members.
Relatives of Alvi Abdurakhmanov claimed his disappearance after his detention by law enforcers, which took place after he was acquitted by the jury in the case of robbery and attacks on public officer.
According to advocate Timerlan Akhmadov, legal status of Alvi Abdurakhmanov has still not been defined.
According to Madina Abdurakhmanova, the sister of Alvi Abdurakhmanov, on March 5 or 6, an investigator called her and said that Alvi Abdurakhmanov voluntarily came to him and stated "he did not want to jeopardize the family members, and therefore he is hiding."
The case of holding Alvi Abdurakhmanov contain elements of crime under Article 127 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Unlawful deprivation of liberty" and, possibly, elements of crime under Article 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Kidnapping of a person". This opinion was expressed by Oleg Orlov, a member of the Board of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".
"There are no grounds for holding Alvi Abdurakhmanov. Properly speaking, he is kidnapped," Oleg Orlov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
