HRC "Memorial": court dismisses appeal filed by Saint Petersburg ADC "Memorial" against decision to recognize it foreign agent
On April 15, the Zamoskvorechye Court of Moscow is to hold the next court hearing to consider the claim filed by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" against the prosecutors' demand to get registered as a foreign agent.
On April 8, some media reported that Russian court pronounced the decision to close the HRC "Memorial". "This information is incorrect. Authors of the material have mixed the HRC 'Memorial' and the Anti-Discrimination Centre (ADC) 'Memorial' from Saint Petersburg," states the message of the HRC "Memorial".
The message notes that on April 8, the court dismissed the appeal filed by the ADC "Memorial" against the decision to recognize the organization a foreign agent.
According to Olga Tseitlina, a member of the ADC "Memorial", the organization plans to file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). She has emphasized that the ADC "Memorial" was repeatedly recognized a foreign agent because of the report prepared by the organization, which criticized the law on NGOs and the so-called law on gay propaganda.
