Georgian journalists demand to release their colleagues detained in South Ossetia

The Independent Association of Georgian Journalists has condemned the detention of media professionals in the area of delineation with South Ossetia. Three Georgian citizens were detained by Russian border guards in the vicinities of near-border village of Adzvi of the Gori Districton on April 15, on suspicion of violating the border of South Ossetia.

According to Maya Chuchashvili, the executive producer of the "TV-3" TV Channel, Bela Zakaidze, Vakho Lekiashvili and Mikhail Mikhoev, members of the TV Channel crew, were among detained. In Adzvi, they were preparing a report on the transfer of entanglement line by Russian border guards to Georgian direction.

The fact of detention of Georgian journalists demonstrates that aggressive attitude to the media has become a rule for the Russian military men. This was reported by the press release of the Independent Association of Georgian Journalists received by the "Caucasian Knot".

The authors of the press release demand to immediately release the detained journalists and call on their Russian colleagues to immediately intervene in the situation.
