UFSIN: two figurants in the attack on Nalchik case are on hunger strike at SIZO
As reported by the Department for Kabardino-Balkaria of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation (known as UFSIN), two defendants in the case on the attack on Nalchik – Azamat Akhkubekov and Azret Shavaev – are on hunger strike in the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of the city of Nalchik, while three other defendants, who earlier announced the same intention, later refused to join the protest.
Let us remind you that, according to their advocate, the defendants went on hunger strike in protest against continued keeping of Azamat Akhkubekov in the dungeon and violations of his rights. The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Azamat Akhkubekov was kept in the dungeon for 23 days.
On April 11, Azamat Akhkubekov wrote a complaint about the actions of SIZO bosses and sent it to Magazali Endreev, the chairman of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Kabardino-Balkaria from the Public Chamber of Russia.
On April 15, the complaint reached the POC, but rights defenders cannot start the check, because the POC has temporarily suspended its work.
