At trial, Anna Politkovskaya's daughter claims mother knew she was shadowed

Anna Politkovskaya, the murdered journalist of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" saw people who were shadowing her. This was stated by Vera Politkovskaya, a daughter of the murdered journalist, at the court session held on April 16 at the Moscow City Court.

"When we were walking together with my mother, she told me that some people were watching her. I saw them, but I do not remember their appearances, and I do not remember the number of them," said Vera Politkovskaya when answering the question asked by Murad Musaev, advocate of one of the defendants.

At the court session held on April 16, public prosecutor Maria Semenenko has also read out the response to her request received from the Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) in Moscow. It was reported that during the period from October 1 to October 7, 2006, none of the defendants passed anything to the "Butyrka" SIZO (pre-trial prison). Thus, the official response from the SIZO has disproved the version voiced by the defence and defendants. According to that version, the defendants appeared in the area covered by the base station of the cellular network located in the area of the metro station "Novoslobodskaya", when they were engaged in passing some things to the SIZO, rather than in watching Anna Politkovskaya. Earlier, after the investigators had examined the telephone conversations of the defendants, they have revealed the fact that the journalist had been chased.
