Nalchik has no environment for invalids' full communion and free movement, their relatives assert

Nalchik residents with disabilities lack the barrier-free environment and space for full-fledged communion, state their relatives and social workers, who took part in the roundtable on situation with invalids in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR).

The roundtable was held on April 18 in the conference hall of the State Committee for the Press and Mass Communications of the KBR in Nalchik.

The main problem of republic's invalids is that they have nowhere to go – they have to spend a lifetime at home, said Amin Mammeeva, whose 24-year-old daughter suffers from Down syndrome.

In their turn, wheelchair users noted that Nalchik, which has no ramps and adapted public transports, remains for them an inaccessible city. They said that the bus that had been allocated for transporting them operated for three months only.

The participants agreed that further discussions of invalids' problems should be held with their participation, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
