Organizers of Extraordinary Congress of Nations of Dagestan state the event was disrupted by police

Today in Makhachkala, policemen did not allow holding the Extraordinary Congress of Nations of Dagestan, said Ruslan Rasulov, a public activist and a member of the organizing committee of the congress.

According to his story, the delegates wanted to discuss the socio-political situation in Dagestan and the issue of rehabilitation of the deported nations of Dagestan. The congress was scheduled for April 19 and 20 in the building of the cinema "Russia" in Makhachkala.

It was planned that 400 delegates would come from different districts of Dagestan. When at 10:00 a.m. about 30 percent of them gathered near the cinema, policemen began driving all of them out of the cinema foyer, the organizers assert.

The organizing committee is now planning to hold the congress outside Dagestan, since, as they say, "the country's authorities will not allow to do it." In the context of today's dispersal, the organizers also plan to address the Russian General Prosecutor's Office, the Federation Council and the president on the violation of citizens' constitutional rights.
