"EcoWatch": Sochi activists prevent discharge of construction waste into a stream

As reported by the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" (EcoWatch), in Sochi activists prevented unloading of construction waste into a water course.

According to environmentalists, it happened on April 18 in the village of Krajevsko-Grecheskoye of the Khosta District of Sochi. In Izobilnaya Street, the valley of the stream, which flows into the Tsanyk River, a tributary of the Matsesta River, was approached by three dump trucks loaded with construction waste. When one of the drivers was ready to unload the garbage, a car with activists drove up.

Later, managers of the company, which employs the drivers, policemen and officials of the local administration appeared in the venue. The managers argued that the trucks were full not of wastes, but soil intended to backfill the construction site. However, they failed to present any confirming documents, the environmentalists assert.

The police detained all the three trucks and began a check, the website of the "EcoWatch" reports.
