Sochi administration claims conducting no works to install monument to Afghan war veterans in Komsomolsky Park

In Sochi, no construction works are conducted to install the monument to Afghan war veterans in the lawn of the Komsomolsky Park. This was reported by the city administration in response to the inquiry of Lyudmila Shestak, a deputy of the City Council. According to Lyudmila Shestak, the monument has been already installed, and it has been done in violation of urban planning rules and citizens' rights on information.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the construction works to install the monument to Afghan war veterans began in the Komsomolsky Park on April 9. On April 16, Lyudmila Shestak received a response regarding the construction of the monument from Ivan Bomberger, Acting Deputy Mayor of Sochi and Director of the Department for Construction of the city administration.

According to Lyudmila Shestak, the response is concealing and facilitating violations.

"Firstly, my inquiry has been sent personally to Viktor Filonov, Acting Mayor, who is responsible for everything that happens in the absence of the Mayor. Secondly, they failed to provide documents justifying the works," Lyudmila Shestak claims. She believes that in fact no measures were taken to stop the construction.

According to her story, the construction is carried out in the area of the architectural monument – the viaduct over the Sochi River. Besides, the very Komsomolsky Park is also a protected area of the monument, and it is prohibited to conduct any works there.
