Circassian Youth Forum in Nalchik brings together about 100 participants from Russia and abroad

On Monday, April 21, in Nalchik, the Kabardino-Balkaria State University (KBSU) hosted the Circassian Youth Forum, which was attended by about a hundred participants, 47 of them from foreign Diasporas – from Syria, Jordan, Israel, the USA, Turkey and the UAE. They discussed the participation of Circassian young people in preservation and promotion of the traditional Adyg culture and the problems arising in the Diasporas in this regard, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

In Syria, there are still more than 150,000 Circassians; basically, they are homeless. Circassian villages are destroyed; many of them have been smashed out completely, said Kabartay Adnan, the deputy chairman of the "Adyge Khase" of Syria.

If the state creates opportunities for preservation of one's traditions and customs – it is a unique case, which should be used in full, said Mike Check, the chairman of the Council of the Circassian Benevolent Society of California.

After the plenary session, the Forum split into three groups to discuss the following topics: "Circassians in Modern Russia and Abroad", "Adyge Khabze as Moral and Ethical Code" and "Participation of Circassian Youth in Preservation and Promotion of Traditional Adyg Culture; Experience of KBSU".

"This is a unique situation that for hundreds of years our ancestors had been scattered around the world; and today the new generation can come together and discuss its problems," said Timur Tenov, an Associate Professor of the KBSU, who moderated the discussion platform "Circassians in Modern Russia and Abroad".
