Chechen MIA: five militants' helpers detained in 2014

In Chechnya, starting from the beginning of the year, law enforcers detained five suspected accomplices of militants. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by an official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Chechnya. According to the source, the armed underground in the territory of Chechnya has been almost completely destroyed.

The results of the activities of the Chechen MIA in the first four months of the year were announced at the meeting that was held on April 22 in Grozny and that was attended by top-ranking officials of the republic government and the law enforcement bodies.

According to the officer of the Chechen police, the armed underground in the territory of the Chechen Republic "has been almost completely destroyed."

"For the same period of passed year, in our republic, 23 militants were destroyed, including 4 leaders of criminal groupings. Two criminal groupings were destroyed, and 14 accomplices of illegal armed formations (IAFs) were detained," the source has emphasized.

In January, when commenting on the liquidation of Doku Umarov, the leader of the armed underground in Northern Caucasus, Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, claimed that only several militants 5-14 criminals remained in the territory of the republic.

"We carry out the searches for militants almost continuously; however, despite all efforts, we fail to find them. Most likely, they are hiding in neighbouring areas or in inaccessible places on the border with the neighbouring republics," said an officer of a unit of the Chechen law enforcement bodies.
