Former Navy Commander Sultanov arrested in Baku

As reported by the Baku Military Court, Vice Admiral Shakhin Sultanov, the former Commander of the Navy of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has been arrested for three months.

Sultanov is accused of forgery and large-scale embezzlements, the APA News Agency reports. The relevant articles of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code assume the maximum punishment of 12 years in prison.

The "Trend" has confirmed this information about the Vice Admiral, referring to its source from among the military circles.

Sultanov was dismissed from the post of the Navy Commander earlier this March by Decree of President Ilham Aliev; and since then Yunus Mamedov was the Acting Commander, the RAPSI (Russian Legal Information Agency) reports.

Let us remind you that on March 31 by the order of Zakir Gasanov, the Minister of Defence of Azerbaijan, Yunus Mamedov was also dismissed.
