Kadyrov vs. Umakhanov conflict has economic context, Dagestani experts note

The critical statements made by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov in relation to the Khasavyurt Mayor Saigidpasha Umakhanov cannot be explained by economic interests of the Chechen leadership related to Khasavyurt marketplaces, said the experts questioned by the "Caucasian Knot".

According to Mairbek Agaev, the editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" weekly, Umakhanov tried to politically activate and consolidate his close forces. The conflict broke out against the background of unresolved problems of the revival of the Aukh District, said the political analyst Magomed Magomedov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 23, Ramzan Kadyrov stated, during a sitting of the Collegium of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), that Saigidpasha Umakhanov had relations with the bandit underground.

Residents of Chechnya stick to the opinion that the origin of the conflict may be in the economic aspirations of the Chechen leadership to Khasavyurt marketplaces, which have a high cash turnover, said Imran, an activist of a Chechen NGO.

According to Agaev, any direct reaction to Kadyrov's statement of the leadership of Dagestan is hardly expected, but the head of Dagestan will most likely take steps for rapprochement with Umakhanov.

Let us note here that at the meeting in the administration of Khasavyurt, which took place in the summer of 2013 with the participation of the government, local authorities and business community of Dagestan, it was reported that more than 70% of entrepreneurs' profits remain unaccounted for the purpose of taxation.
