KChR resident sentenced to three years for giving 1000 roubles to militants

Baris Bairamkulov, a resident of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) has been sentenced to three years in colony on charges of financing illegal armed formations (IAFs) in the amount of 1000 roubles. The defendant refused to plead guilty.

According to the prosecution, Bairamkulov gave 1000 roubles to two supporters of the idea of "jihad", who turned to him for financial help. While doing this, the defendant supported, according to investigators, the aspirations of the IAF members and realized the wrongfulness of his actions.

The money was kept in the hideout together with ammunition, grenades, an improvised explosive device (IED), TNT blocks and fuses, investigators assert.

According to Bairamkulov, he had no intention to finance IAFs.
