MCC reappoints pleadings in Politkovskaya's murder case for May 14
The Moscow City Court (MCC) has postponed the hearing of parties' arguments on the murder case of Anna Politkovskaya, an observer of the "Novaya Gazeta", till 14. The reason was in the vacation of Alexei Mikhalchik, an advocate for the defendant Sergey Khadjikurbanov, who had duly informed the court about it.
Let us remind you that starting January 14 the MCC considers the case with a new jury. On April 28, the judicial investigation was completed.
During the today's session, the defendants and their lawyers demanded from the chairing judge to abandon the case, but the petition was not submitted procedurally; and the court did not consider it.
The advocates argued that the judge had refused to let the defence to question a witness, because it had been already announced to the parties that the trial passed over to the stage of pleadings, which were to begin today.
Prosecutors objected to the reopening of the investigation, noting that the defence has had enough time to present its evidence.
