On April 21-27, armed conflict in Northern Caucasus claimed 10 human lives

During the week from April 21 to April 27, 2014, the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus affected at least 13 people, of whom ten were killed and three wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

All 10 casualties are the persons suspected of involvement in the activities of the armed underground in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On April 21, in Gamidov Avenue in Makhachkala, unidentified persons opened fire on a policeman, when he was getting into his car. The policeman opened a return fire on the attackers, but they managed to escape, while the policeman was hospitalized with a wound in his leg.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On April 23, the Derbent and Tabasaran Districts of Dagestan were put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. According to one of the websites that support Dagestani militants, on April 23, at the border of these districts power agents were ambushed by members of the armed underground. No losses of the parties were reported. On April 24, the CTO regime was lifted.

On April 24, in the township named Svoboda in the city of Khasavyurt, power agents blocked a private house, where, according to their version, members of the underground were hiding. In the shootout, a woman who came out of the house was killed; she was preliminarily identified as Ruzana Ibragimova. During the assault the owner of the house, his wife and two militants were killed.

On April 26, the city of Derbent was put under the CTO regime. Law enforcers tried to stop a VAZ-2114 car, but two persons opened fire from inside the car; one of them was killed in a shootout, the other one tried to escape, but was found in hot pursuit and also killed. At the same time, another group of suspected militants was blocked in one of the houses in Kollektivnaya Street. Three suspected members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) were killed in the fight. According to preliminary data, two power agents were wounded.

Explosions and terror acts

At night on April 25, in the village of Shamilkala, Untsukul District of Dagestan, a private car owned by an employee of the Republic's GIBBD (road police), who lives in the same village, was blown up. Nobody suffered from the explosion.

Kidnappings

On April 26 in Derbent, local relatives Arif Mamaliev and Zakir Magomedkerimov were kidnapped, their relatives reported. Masked people attacked them and beat them up; and then drove them away. On April 27, Magomedkerimov was released; the whereabouts of Mamaliev is unknown.
