Azerbaijan: hospitalized Arif Yunus to be questioned at GPO
In Azerbaijan, Arif Yunus, Director of the Department of Conflict Resolution Studies and Migration Processes of the Institute for Peace and Democracy (IPD), has been called for questioning to the Investigating Department of Grave Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) as a witness in the case against journalist Rauf Mirkadirov, accused of treason.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night of April 29, at the Baku airport, law enforcers detained Leyla Yunus, Director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy (IPD), and her husband Arif Yunus, a political scientist. After the detention, the husband of the human rights defender felt bad, and he was hospitalized.
Advocate Khalid Bagirov believes that because of his health state, Arif Yunus cannot testify. The advocate offers to question his client at the hospital. Today, Khalid Bagirov has filed the appropriate motion to the Investigating Department for Grave Crimes of the GPO of Azerbaijan.
The advocate has also reported that he had filed a motion for the return of the confiscated passports of the Yunus spouses. According to the advocate, they were confiscated in the Baku airport absolutely unlawfully.
