In Chechnya, court dismisses complaint against custody of ACP President
Today, the Supreme Court of Chechnya has dismissed a complaint against the custody of Ruslan Kutaev, the President of the "Assembly of Caucasian Peoples" (ACP), accused of drug possession, said Evgeny Chikhlikov, the spokesman of the Joint Mobile Group.
Ruslan Kutaev was detained in the village of Gekhi, Urus-Martan District of Chechnya, on February 20, after on February 18 he criticized the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, who had forbidden holding commemorative events on the occasion of the anniversary of deportation of Chechens and Ingushes. Kutaev rejects the charges of drug possession. According to rights defenders, he was tortured.
Evgeny Chikhlikov said that because of considering the appeal, the today's session of the Urus-Martan City Court, which considers Kutaev's case, did not take place. As explained by Chikhlikov, since Kutaev was convoyed to Grozny, his presence at the court session in Urus-Martan was technically impossible.
"In this context, it was decided to postpone the session on the criminal case," said Chikhlikov.
