Resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh adopted by California State Assembly could be promoted by Ukrainian events, Armenian analysts believe

On May 5, the Committee on Procedural Matters of the Assembly of the State of California (USA) decided to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Let us remind you that the draft resolution on recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh was brought into the Parliament of California on January 7 by Mike Gatto, a Democrat and Chairman of the Appropriations Committee who was elected from Los Angeles.

The resolution on recognition of independence of Nagorno-Karabakh was supported by 9 MPs of California, one was against and one did not participate in the vote. The voting in both chambers of the Assembly is scheduled for May 8, the Armenian National Committee of America reports.

Armenian political analysts do not rule out that the decision could be influenced by Ukrainian events; however, they remind that such resolutions are not adopted by the US Government, which recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani community of California has treated such resolutions as an illogical step for the country, which is working towards a peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict.
