Dagestan: advocates of teacher convicted for sexual abuse insist on his innocence
The advocates of the Dagestani teacher Gadjiaga Gadjiagaev, convicted for sexual assault against young pupils, intend to appeal against the verdict. According to their version, their client is innocent, while there exists common practice in Dagestan to fabricate criminal cases under the article of sexual assault.
Let us remind you that on May 5 the Supreme Court of the Republic of Dagestan sentenced the head teacher of a rural school to 14 years of imprisonment in a high security colony.
However, the advocates of the elderly teacher believe that the case files contain no evidence of his guilt.
According to the lawyer Djigit Eilanbekov, who defended Gadjigaev's interests during the preliminary investigation, the case against the teacher had been "instituted by the order of his enemies."
In the past two years, Dagestan has seen many such cases, but most of them were falsified, said the lawyer Rinat Gamidov.
"Real crimes are also committed. But most often cases of this category are fabricated for the sake of statistics. If earlier they planted a pistol on a suspect, now they accuse people of sexual assaults," Gamidov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
