Case on beating Sapiyat Magomedova reopened in Dagestan
The Supreme Court of Dagestan has invalidated the investigators' decision to stop the criminal case initiated against the policemen suspected of beating the lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova. This was announced today by the victim herself and confirmed by a source from the court office.
"I've learnt about the decision of the Supreme Court today, on May 8, although it was made early last month. The appeal ruling says that the refusal of Judge Guseinov was wrong, same as the actions of the investigators," Sapiyat Magomedova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to Magomedova, on June 17, 2010, she was beaten up by two employees of the OVD (Interior Division). In their turn, policemen asserted that the lawyer herself attacked them. Investigating authorities initiated criminal case both against the policemen and against Magomedova. Later, the cases were combined into one; and on December 28, 2011, the investigation was stopped. On June 14, 2013, a complaint against this decision was submitted to the court, but on October 25, 2013, Judge Gasangusein Guseinov of the Sovietskiy Court in Makhachkala rejected the complaint. On December 24, 2013, Magomedova appealed against Guseinov's decision at the Supreme Court of Dagestan.
