Yerevan hosts protest action against accumulative pension system

In Yerevan, the movement "DEM.AM" ("I'm against!") has held an action to protest against mandatory accumulative pension system. The protest procession was attended by several thousands of people.

The protest action was held on May 8 in Charles Aznavour Square. During the rally, speakers have noted that state institutions continue to hold funds from salaries of its employees against their will for pension benefits. "Our struggle will continue as long as the citizens of Armenia are plundered under the pretext of pension payments. Any of you can change the situation in the country. We are the owners of our country," the "News.am" quotes one of the activists as saying.

After the rally, the activists held a march to France Square, where they held a sit-in protest action.

It should be noted that on the day of the protest action, the Armenian government has offered to discuss the draft law on amendments to the Law "On Accumulative Pensions" at an extraordinary session of the Parliament. It was proposed to schedule the Parliament session for the noon of May 12, the "Armenia Today" reports.
