Lawyer: activist Kyamalya Bananyarly tortured in Baku insulation facility

Asabali Mustafaev, the advocate of Kyamalya Bananyarly, a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), sentenced to administrative arrest for participating in the May 6 protest action, asserts that his client was tortured and abused in the Nasimi district police department.

On May 8, the lawyer Mustafaev visited Bananyarly at the isolation facility for those arrested administratively in the Binagadi District of Baku.

"Kyamalya Bananyarly complained of physical violence and abuse during her stay at the district police department. She was beaten; you can still see traces of beating – bumps – on her head. She's still vomiting. There is reason to believe that she got brain concussion. You can't treat it other than torture," the lawyer told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In the opinion of Asabali Mustafaev, the violence was applied to Bananyarly as a punishment "for her civil activeness and participation in protest actions, as well as with the aim to obtain evidence against Ali Kerimli, the leader of the PFPA."
