SFD marked Victory Day under elevated security measures
The regions of the Southern Federal District (SFD) marked the Victory Day with celebratory processions and parades. In some of them increased security measures were taken.
In Volgograd, the Victory Parade traditionally was held in Fallen Fighters Square. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the press service of the regional police department that about 50,000 came to the square. However, many of them could not see the parade. "The event was organized not so well," Olga Chernova, a Volgograd resident, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "We saw almost nothing."
Sochi held about 50 events dedicated to the Victory Day – topical concerts, films made during the war years and festive dinners and parties. Some veterans noted that the current appearance of the resort city, which has lost its attractiveness, has darkened the holiday.
In Rostov-on-Don, explosive experts were examining the route of military columns. According to the "Rostov News Agency", immediately after military orchestra had marched along Sadovaya Street after the column of military equipment, the street section near the monument "Mother and Child" was cordoned off by explosive experts. As explained by one of them, they were looking for a trip wire mine supposedly installed there; fortunately, the fears were not confirmed.
