Sochi veterans complain they were not congratulated on Victory Day by local officials

As reported by a WW II veteran Elena Chibisova, the Sochi authorities failed to congratulate the war veterans on Victory Day, and invited only local activists to the festivities.

"Local authorities have failed to congratulate me. I am a single person; and I spent the holiday with tears in my eyes, thinking that nobody needs us," the woman-veteran has added.

Nina Kurilo, a teacher and a prisoner of Nazi concentration camps, also had claims to local officials.

"The authorities forget about us, veterans and citizens of the country, not only during holidays, but also in everyday life. People of my generation cannot forget what they had endured during the years of fascism also because that indifference to us, children of war, on the part of officials is such that it's just impossible to live and see how people of the older war generation have to live in cold and hunger, without any warranties and social protection. For example, I have been freezing in winter for many years, since my old house has no heating. I wrote and appealed to all possible places – with zero reaction," the woman told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
