Activist of "The Other Russia" from Volgograd detained on Russian-Ukrainian border

Sergey Zaplavnov, an activist of the Volgograd regional branch of the unregistered party "The Other Russia", was detained by Ukrainian border guards, says the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU). The spokesman of "The Other Russia" fears that Sergey Zaplavnov may have been tortured.

According to the Ukrainian party, just before leaving for Ukraine, Sergey Zaplavnov received instructions and assignment from a Russia's FSB officer, who also assisted him in crossing the border.

Zaplavnov's mission was to take part in the actions of the "Donbass People's Militia" and gather information on the socio-political situation in the region and about the organizations operating in the Donetsk and Lugansk Regions, says the message of the SSU posted on its website on May 9.

The above spokesman of the "The Other Russia" insists that Sergey Zaplavnov could have been tortured with the aim to obtain the necessary evidence.
