California's resolution on recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh stresses primacy of nations' right to self-determination, Karabakh experts believe

The resolution of the State of California in support of Nagorno-Karabakh's efforts to develop as a free and independent state has a political significance, Karabakh experts assert.

"These processes, which primarily involved the Armenian lobby and Diaspora, are focused on the global trend to support nations' right of self-determination," Anush Gavalyan, a member of the Karabakh NGO "Helsinki Initiative-92", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

She believes that Nagorno-Karabakh has all the opportunities for development and recognition as a democratic state. "I'm sure the international community will support and admit that Nagorno-Karabakh is a reality; and no return to the previous political status is possible," said Gavalyan.

At the same time, she noted that such political declarations are unlikely to affect the position of the US government, which is one of the co-chairs of the Minsk OSCE Group.
