On May 5-11, armed conflict in Northern Caucasus claimed five human lives
During the week from May 5 to May 11, 2014, at least 15 people fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, including 11 killed and four wounded persons. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The death toll includes 10 suspected members of the armed underground and one law enforcer – all of them in Dagestan.
Attacks on law enforcers
On May 4, at 9:30 p.m., in Baku Highway Street in the city of Khasavyurt a policeman was wounded with two shots in the back. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan, an unidentified attacker opened fire, when the policeman tried to check his documents. The policeman was hospitalized in critical condition.
On May 7, at about 11:00 p.m., in Makhachkala, at the crossing of Yaragsky and Irchi Kazak Street, policemen tried to stop a Lada Priora car for inspection. The persons who were in the car opened fire at the policemen and were killed by return fire. According to the ICRF, the casualties were members of the "Makhachkala" terrorist grouping: Osman Aliev, 29, Arslan Temirov, 31, and Batyr Amaev, 23. Two occasional bystanders were wounded in the shootout.
On May 8, at about 10:10 p.m. Moscow time, at the intersection of Yaragsky and Ermoshkin Streets in Makhachkala, unidentified persons shelled a Toyota Land Cruiser, driven by an FSB Major, who died from the received wounds. The basic version of the murder is related to his professional activities.
Special and counterterrorist operations
On May 5, at 6:30 a.m., in Liza Chaikina Street in Khasavyurt, a private house was blocked, where suspected militants were hiding. During the fire contact between them and law enforcers, a grenade was thrown out of the house; and its explosion wounded a policeman. The negotiations resulted in an evacuation of a woman, while the remaining people refused to surrender. Law enforcers stormed the house, killing three suspects of involvement in illegal armed formations (IAFs), including a woman. Two of them were identified as Ramazan Labazanov, and IAF member, and his wife. According to preliminary data, the third casualty was Ibragim Dubaev, an IAF member, also known as "Magomed".
On May 7, at 5:30 a.m. Moscow time, the Kirov District of Makhachkala was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. Militants were blocked in a private house in Khasavyurt Street in the township Semender. During the negotiations, a woman, supposedly, the house owner's wife, came out of the house, while the other people in the house refused to go out. The subsequent storm resulted in a killing of four suspected IAF members. All of them were militants of the "Makhachkala" grouping. Three of them were identified as Magomed Amiraliev, 24, the owner of the house, Ali Mustafaev, 25, and Magomed Guseinov, 32.
Explosions and terror acts
At night on May 9, unidentified persons blasted the monument to the participants of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) in the village of Sogratl, the Gunib District of Dagestan. Also, the memorial plaque in honour of the Sogratl villagers, who never returned from the war, installed in the village cemetery, was blown up. There were no victims of the explosions.
