Advocate: Azerbaijan journalist Mirkadyrov is not allowed communicating with his family
Investigators do not allow the arrested journalist Rauf Mirkadyrov to communicate with his relatives in person and by telephone, though these rights are established by the legislation, said his lawyer Fuad Agaev.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mirkadyrov was detained on April 18 in Ankara (Turkey) and on the next day deported to Baku, where the court ruled to arrest him for three months. Mirkadyrov's colleagues are sure that his arrest has to do with his professional activities.
"Since his arrest, Rauf Mirkadyrov has never met his family and never talked with them on the phone, although it is contrary to the law. An arrested person shall have the right, at least once a week, to meet his parents and family members and communicate with them on the phone," said Agaev.
He explained that the ban on meeting with relatives was imposed on Mirkadyrov by the investigator of the Investigating Department for Grave Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office. "We believe this ban to be unjustified and illegal and intend, in the coming days, to appeal against it in court," he said.
