Dagestan: volunteers' advocates appeal against their administrative arrest

The defence of Aisha Abakarova and Sadiyat Arslanova, the volunteers of the Charitable Foundation "Be Merciful!", who were detained for three days on charges of disobeying the police, has challenged the ruling of the Khasavyurt City Court on administrative arrest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Sadiyat Arslanova and Aisha Abakarova were taken to the Khasavyurt police on May 7. The women were kept there over the night, after which on May 8 the court imposed a 3-day administrative arrest on them. The women were released on May 10.

According to the lawyers Mansur Sepikhanov and Musa Abdulkadirov, who represent the interests of the volunteers, the court did not check the legitimacy of policemen's actions, failed to assess the incorrectly drawn documents on their offence and detention and motivate its decision, and also ignored the fact that Aisha Abakarova has minor children.

In their complaint dated May 16 the lawyers ask to declare illegal and annul the decision of the Khasavyurt City Court on the above administrative offence and stop the case for the absence of the offence elements.
