CoA leaves opposition activists Bananyarly and Abbasly behind bars in Azerbaijan

On May 15, the Baku Court of Appeal (CoA) dismissed the complaints lodged against the arrest of Kyamalya Bananyarly, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), for participating in the protest action on May 6, and the 15-day arrest of Tural Abbasly, an activist of the "Musavat" Party, for taking part in the same action.

Kyamalya Bananyarly and Tural Abbasly were detained on May 6 during the protest action against the sentence passed to activists of the "Nida" Movement. On May 8, Kyamalya was visited, in the detention facility, by her advocate Asabali Mustafaev. He said that his client had been tortured and abused at the Nasimi ROVD (District Interior Division).

Asabali Mustafaev, who is defending the rights of both activists, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on May 15 the appeals against the arrests of Bananyarly and Abbasly were considered separately. His both complaints were dismissed; and the Baku CoA left Bananyarly and Abbasly in custody.
