KChR: activists of Circassian organizations report absence of authorities' help in repatriation of Syrian Circassians
Circassian public figures of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic have stated that power bodies render no help to resettlement of Circassians from Syria, despite the efforts of the republic's leadership to preserve the memory of the victims of the Caucasian War. At the solemn meeting in Cherkessk on May 21, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the end of the Caucasian War, Circassian leaders reiterated their call for the republic's authorities to help in resettlement of Syrian Circassians and establish the Committee on Compatriots' Affairs, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
As stated by Muradin Besleneev, a candidate of history and the chairman of the KChR's branch of the Trade Union of Workers of National Education and Sciences of the Russian Federation, "it is our moral duty to assess at the state level the tragedy of Circassians, Abazins and Nogais in the Caucasian War."
The speaker recalled that earlier the head of the KChR Rashid Temrezov expressed his readiness to render help to Syrian compatriots.
Besleneev also noted that the nations of the KChR are far from extremism and try to choose a peaceful way to solve the problems; and the preparation and holding of the Olympic Games had proved it.
Mukhamed Cherkesov, the chairman of the movement "Adyge Khase-Circassian Parliament" in the KChR, believes that one of the reasons of what is happening is in the absence in the republic of a committee on relations with compatriots living abroad.
