Baku prosecutor demands 6.5 years in prison for creator of Facebook group "Stop toadies!"

In Azerbaijan, on May 22, at the trial of Abdul Abilov, the creator of the group "Stop toadies!" on the Facebook, accused of drug dealing, the closing floor was given to the state prosecutor. He asked the court to find Abilov guilty under Article 234.4.3 (illegal large-scale possession or sale of drugs) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan and sentenced him to 6.5 years in prison. The defence did not agree with the prosecutor and believes that he was following a political order.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abilov was detained on November 22, 2013; on the following day the Nariman District Court in Baku arrested him for three months. According to the police, drugs were found in his rented apartment.

"The young man was detained on political grounds. It is not by occasion that during the search his computer was confiscated; and during the inquiry, he was in fact not asked questions about drugs, but mostly about his relations with oppositional leaders," said Abilov's advocate.

The lawyer said earlier that investigators had unofficially accused his client of running a Facebook page about the falsified presidential election on October 9, 2013, and derision of "respectable people" on his page "Stop toadies!"
