Warlick's proposals may become formula for Karabakh settlement, Azerbaijani experts believe

In general, Azerbaijani experts are positively treating the idea of settling the Karabakh conflict, put forward in the statement of James Warlick, the American co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group. The official Baku agrees with the Warlick's proposals, although the principles themselves had been voiced earlier, said Elmar Mamedyarov, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister.

The USA has decided to actualize the Karabakh problem in connection with the events in Ukraine, said Vafa Guluzade, a former state adviser on foreign policy of Azerbaijan. According to Eldar Namazov, the head of a political movement named "EL", the US position brings stability into the negotiation process.

In particular, James Warlick believes that the interim status of Nagorno-Karabakh should have a temporary nature. The parties shall be committed to define the final legal status of the region through a coherent and legally binding expression of will in the future. The territory within the borders of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region, which is now not controlled by Baku, should be provided with the interim status.

Let us note here that Mr Warlick's proposals were criticised in Nagorno-Karabakh.

On May 17, when the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group arrived in Nagorno-Karabakh, locals held protest actions and declared the inadmissibility of the principles of conflict settlement proposed by Warlick.
