Azerbaijani journalist Mirkadyrov behind bars again

Rauf Mirkadyrov, an Azerbaijani journalist, who is under inquiry and who was temporarily released from custody to attend the funeral of his father, today is back in the detention facility, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. The defence is preparing an appeal complaint, said the lawyer Mamedli.

Plenty of journalists, civil society activists and members of oppositional parties came to see Mirkadyrov at the funeral. He was under constant surveillance, but had an opportunity to take condolences and briefly communicate with visitors.

On the advice of his colleagues, he left the mourning tent to stay longer with his relatives. But half an hour later he was suddenly taken out of the apartment, put into a black Jeep and taken back to the detention centre of the Ministry of National Security (MNS), although the commemoration ceremony was not over.

Mirkadyrov was not even allowed saying goodbye to the gathering, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Let us remind you that Mirkadyrov was detained on April 18 in Turkey and deported to Baku. On April 21, a Baku court sanctioned his arrest for three months. He is accused of treason; however, his colleagues believe that the prosecution has to do with his professional activities.
