Alexander Ankvab denies reports about resignation of government, General Prosecutor and heads of districts of Abkhazia

In Abkhazia, the media disseminated the statement made by President Alexander Ankvab, where he claims that he is in the republic. He states that he treats the incident of the last night as an attempt of a coup d'etat and that he refutes the information about resignation of the government, the General Prosecutor and the heads of two districts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 27, the republic's capital Sukhumi hosted an anti-government rally. After the rally, a group of people began assaulting the building of the presidential administration; windows were shattered, and doors were broken. Konstantin Piliya, Chairman of the Sukhumi City Council, has reported that during the negotiations with opposition leaders, Alexander Ankvab made the decision to dismiss the Cabinet of Ministers. Besides, it has been reported that the President agreed to dismiss the General Public Prosecutor and the heads of two districts.

Alexander Ankvab has reported that a large group of people, including armed ones, actually captured the building of the Abkhazian TV Channel. "Of course, guards could take adequate measures. However, everyone understands that would result in nothing good. And those measures were not taken. This means that we still have a chance to return the situation into the legal framework," Alexander Ankvab has stated. He has also assessed the situation as an attempt of violent seizure of power by armed people.
