Abkhazian TV journalists claim impossibility to continue broadcasting

The opposition prevents broadcasting of the Abkhaz State Television and Radio Company (ASTRC), journalists report. In his turn, President Alexander Ankvab has also announced an actual capture of the TV Company.

Let us remind you that at night on May 28, Raul Khajimba, one of the oppositional leaders and the Chairman of the "Forum of National Unity of Abkhazia", said that the opposition had taken control over the republic and would not allow the president into the buildings of the government complex. According to Raul Khajimba, none of those who had led the country until recently, " has moral right to pass the thresholds of the government buildings; it should be adequately protected."

For the second day already, journalists of the ASTRC are unable to cover the events in the country, says the statement of the team of the Company released today.

"There are plenty of strangers and opposition activists in the building and in the territory of the ASTRC who prevent the broadcasting... The society expects objective information from us, but we are abandoned and unprotected. Television is a hostage; and we are unable to perform our professional duties," the statement says.
