Interim People's Council of Abkhazia: republic does not intend to become part of Russian Federation
Abkhazia has no intention to become a part of the Russian Federation; and the republic has no plans to review the possibility of changing the status of an independent state. This was announced by the Interim People's Council of Abkhazia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after the anti-government rally held on May 27 in Sukhumi, the demand for resignation addressed to Abkhaz President Alexander Ankvab and the demand for resignation of the Abkhaz Cabinet of Ministers, the opposition claimed to take control of Abkhazia.
The statement on the absence of Abkhazia's desire to become a part of Russia is associated with the fact that "recently, subordinates of Alexander Ankvab persistently spread rumours that representatives of Russia raise the question on Abkhazia's joining the Russian Federation as its part or as its associate," an official of the press service of the Interim People's Council of Abkhazia told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Nobody has ever considered and does not consider the possibility to change the independent status of our state got by great sacrifice and hardship," declares the statement read by representatives of the People's Council on May 30 in Sukhumi in front of the people's gathering.
