In KBR, volunteers help Kuba-Taba villagers to eliminate flood consequences

More than 20 volunteers are involved in the elimination of consequences of the flood in the village of Kuba-Taba, Baksan District of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR). They have already purged up the mudflow canal, which for a long time remained unused, said Aser Nartokov, the head of the village administration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 29 heavy rains caused flooding of 90 private and six apartment houses in four locations of the Zolskiy and Baksan District of the KBR; over 1500 residents of the Kuba-Taba and Sovkhoznoye villages had gas supply interruption.

According to Nartokov, the flooding of the village was caused by the fact that the above mudflow canal aimed to divert water from the surrounding hills and fields, which for many years was not used, was clogged by growing trees that impeded the outflow of rainwater.

"Most of the villagers have returned to their homes; now, only 21 people stay at the temporary accommodation centre, organized in the school – mostly women and children, whose homes and apartments suffered the most," said Nartokov, adding that he is not able to quote even an approximate sum of the damage. According to his story, a special commission is assessing the damage.
