In Rostov-on-Don, court leaves dismissed Makhachkala Mayor Said Amirov in custody

On Friday, the judicial division for criminal cases of the Rostov Regional Court has dismissed the motion filed by advocates and left Said Amirov, Makhachkala Mayor temporarily dismissed from office, in custody. Said Amirov is accused of plotting a criminal attempt.

On May 26, the Rostov Regional Court prolonged the detention period for Said Amirov until August 28. The defence has challenged the Court's decision and filed a motion to change the pre-trial restriction measure to the form not involving deprivation of liberty.

"The defence has filed the motion in connection with health state of Said Amirov, who is a Category I invalid," an official of the Court has said.

According to Dmitry Khoroshilov, an advocate of Said Amirov, his client is being kept in custody for more than one year. Meanwhile, the advocate has reminded the Court that Said Amirov is a Category I invalid, and his legs are paralyzed. According to Dmitry Khoroshilov, there is no evidence that Said Amirov "may escape from the court" and "there is also no reason to believe that he will put pressure on witnesses."

The public prosecutor has requested to dismiss the motion and to preserve the pre-trial restriction measure to Said Amirov in the form of detention in custody, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
