Activist Sergey Loshkaryov arrested in Rostov Region

In the city of Novocherkassk of the Rostov Region, the court has sanctioned the arrest of activist Sergey Loshkaryov. The activist has become well-known through posting on the "YouTube" the video records about the situation with cutting down trees in the grove "Krasnaya Vesna" (Red Spring). The arrest of the activist was reported by the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus".

Sergey Loshkaryov was sentenced under Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (disobeying a lawful order of a police officer). The activist was placed under arrest for three days. As of June 7, he is kept at the IVS (temporary detention facility).

According to eyewitnesses, the activist was detained with the use of brutal force. Sergey Loshkaryov was approached by two men in civilian clothes. They forced him into their car, took away his bag for search and put a plastic bag over his head.

According to a source from the law enforcement agencies, long time ago, the police paid attention to Sergey Loshkaryov "as an active participant of the Kiev Maydan and a radical activist". During his detention, law enforcers found narcotic substance in his belongings. This was reported by the web portal "Bloknot".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 8, 2013, the Novocherkassk City Duma made a decision to allocate a part of land of the grove "Krasnaya Vesna" to the construction of two kindergartens. However, local residents spoke against the decision and began to hold protest rallies.
