Acting Abkhazian President meets Turkish MPs; Georgia is surprised at their visit to Sukhumi

On June 7, Valery Bganba, Acting President of Abkhazia, met a delegation of MPs of the Turkish Republic, who arrived in Abkhazia. "The process of Turkey's recognition of the independence of our republic is difficult. However, nevertheless, it can be a possible start of a dialogue," Valery Bganba has stated.

Turkish MP Icahn Seferyustyun has shared Valery Bganba's opinion. The Turkish MP has noted that they arrived in Abkhazia to acknowledge the possible start of the dialogue. He spoke of the recent agreement signed by the Turkish and Abkhazian Chambers of Commerce. "We consider the relationship primarily in terms of human relations: to establish direct air and sea connections and thus to promote the development of the tourism sector and to attract investment," the Turkish MP has stated.

The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has announced that it has been surprised at the visit of the Turkish MPs to Abkhazia. The Georgian MFA intends to demand to present explanations. Furthermore, the MFA also intends to withdraw the Georgian Ambassador from Ankara for consultations.

"This fact is surprising, since Turkey is our partner, and it supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country," David Zalkaliani, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia, told journalists on June 7.
