US to allocate to Georgia 5 million US dollars to help victims of border demarcation with South Ossetia

The United States will provide Georgia with additional financial help in the amount of 5 million US dollars to enhance security and to help people affected by the demarcation process on the border with South Ossetia.

"The United States are active supporters of democratic and economic development in Georgia. The United States also support Georgia's efforts to strengthen its security... To support these goals, on June 7, US Vice President Joe Biden informed Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili that the US intend to allocate to Georgia the financial assistance in the amount of 5 million US dollars," the "InterpressNews" quotes on June 8 the White House as stating.

The allocated funds are to be directed to render assistance to people affected by the demarcation process carried out by Russia in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The allocated funds are to increase the availability of independent information in the region and to ensure national security. Besides, the Government of Georgia is to use the funds allocated by the US to implement reforms directed to strengthening its legal institutions.
