Elections in South Ossetia were democratic, international observers report
Today, the mission of international observers composed of members of Russian and foreign NGOs gave a press conference on their monitoring results of the parliamentary elections in South Ossetia, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. The observers have assessed the elections positively.
According to Vasily Volkov, a member of the NGO "Russian Foundation for Free Elections", the entire electoral process in the republic was in line with the desire of its leadership to ensure the transparency of elections.
"According to our own observations, we can state that the elections have responded to all democratic requirements and principles of the international law", Volkov has concluded.
His opinion was supported by NGO members from India, South Africa, Greece, Germany, Poland and the USA.
Cooper Curtis, a US observer, said that being a lawyer he followed the elections with great interest and was pleasantly surprised by the presence of so many parties that ensured the competitiveness.
