Baku court dismisses journalist Rauf Mirkadirov's complaint about non-admission of notary
On June 9, the Nasimi District Court of Baku dismissed the complaint filed by Azerbaijani journalist Rauf Mirkadirov against the non-admission of a notary to him.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 18, Rauf Mirkadirov was detained in Turkey and deported to Baku. On April 21, the Baku court sanctioned his arrest for three months. The journalist is accused of treason.
Elmar Suleimanov, the journalist's advocate, believes that Rauf Mirkadirov's rights had been violated during his deportation to Azerbaijan. According to his story, "Rauf Mirkadirov was actually not deported, but extradited."
On May 19, the defence filed a request to the Investigating Department of Grave Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office, asking investigators to allow Rauf Mirkadirov to meet a notary to issue a power of attorney from the journalist to a Turkish advocate to protect the journalist's rights in Turkey. On May 29, investigator Ibragim Lemberansky refused to issue a permit for the notary's visit. The defence has challenged the decision at the Nasimi District Court.
"Unfortunately, the court has failed to take into account the arguments presented by the defence and to ensure the restoration of the Rauf Mirkadirov's rights provided by the Constitution," Elmar Suleimanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
