Sochi authorities to allot money on water pipeline in Akhshtyr village, locals report

The Sochi City Council has decided to allocate money for the construction of a water pipeline in the village of Akhshtyr. However, the text of the City Council's resolution fails to mention the target for money allocation. This has been reported by activists and residents of the village, who are deprived of water for more than a month.

"June 6 marked exactly one month, during which the Akhshtyr villagers are in distress without drinking water. Officials from the city administration still do nothing. We have not seen the promised resolution adopted by the City Council at the session held on May 29 to allot 24 million roubles for building a water pipeline," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Igor Vasiliev, an assistant to a Russian State Duma MP and the leader of Sochi communists.

"At its website, the Sochi City Council has published the text of its resolution stating the funds were allocated for Akhshtyr. However, the earmarking of the funds has not been specified," Natalia Mozhanova, the head of the Department for Cooperation with Public Associations of the Sochi City Administration, explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Activists of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) and local residents believe that the City Council should have made a decision on a targeted allocation of the funds.

The Akhshtyr villagers also note that the resolution adopted by the Sochi City Council has failed to set the deadline for the project implementation.

"It takes time to implement the project. However, how long can we wait? People want drinking here and now. During one month, we live without drinking water. By their physiology, people cannot live without water for such a long period of time. How long should we still wait? Wherever we address, we get no information," said Ilya Zamesin, an Akhshtyr villager.
