DEM.AM: in Armenia, public institutions dismiss employees who disagree with pension reform

In Armenia, employees of public institutions have to agree with the new funded pension system, because of the risk to lose their jobs for opposing the reform. This has been reported by members of the DEM.AM initiative, who are fighting against the new system.

According to activists, the risk to lose job is the reason why the public employees do not write letters in favour of renouncing the accumulative pension system. According to the report released by the DEM.AM initiative, a severe pressure is applied to employees of public institutions and agencies of the educational system. "In many cases, when an employee writes a letter against the accumulative pension system, he or she has to write a resignation application at once," says the report.

On June 11, the DEM.AM initiative group plans to organize a "support march" down the central streets of Yerevan.

Let us remind you that the law on the introduction of the accumulative pension system was enforced in Armenia since January 1, 2014. On April 2, the country's Constitutional Court recognized a mandatory component of the pension system to be unconstitutional and suspended the law until September 30.
