Belarusian KGB: attempt to hijack Kutaisi-Minsk aircraft prevented
Today, an attempt to hijack an aircraft performing the Kutaisi-Minsk flight has been prevented, said the State Security Committee of Belarus (known as KGB).
According to the Committee, a passenger sent a note to the crew commander with a threat to blow the aircraft up and a demand to change the route and fly to one of European countries.
At the moment, the aircraft had 32 passengers, including one child, and 4 crew members onboard. As a result, the pilots managed to land the plane at the Minsk National Airport.
"After landing, agents of the KGB's antiterrorist unit and Group 'A' climbed aboard; they started negotiations with the above passenger, who appeared to be a citizen of Georgia, born in 1973. As a result of the talks, he agreed to leave the plane and voluntarily surrendered to KGB agents," says a statement posted on the website of the Belarusian KGB.
