In Rostov Region, protest marchers hold series of pickets en route

Starting from June 2, the residents of the city of Zverevo in the Rostov Region, who take part in a protest march, have covered about 65 kilometres. Today, they organized a series of pickets en route, said Valery Dyakonov, a City Duma Deputy and one of the initiators of the action.

The marchers assert that their protest was caused by the city's social welfare department's decision to freeze the payments on benefits for housing and utility services.

"Every day we continue our march from the point, where we stopped yesterday. We are brought to the point by the car, which then takes us back to Zverevo. Today, as in previous days, we were accompanied by a police car, officials from the city administration and a medic," said Valery Dyakonov.

According to his story, today he has sent an appeal to the Governor of the Rostov Region Vasily Golubev.

"We ask the Governor to deal with the situation – why 240 residents of Zverevo have been deprived of their benefits in paying their housing and utility bills. Besides, a few weeks ago, we sent a similar appeal to President of Russia," Dyakonov has added.
