In Azerbaijan, Anar Mamedli's advocate appeals against verdict of guilty
The guilty verdict pronounced in the case against Anar Mamedli, the head of the Centre for Election Monitoring and Democracy Training (CEM&DT), and activists Bashir Suleimanly and Elnur Mamedov has been appealed against. This was reported by advocate Djavad Djavadly.
The "Caucasian Knot" has already reported, on May 26, the Baku Court on Grave Crimes pronounced the verdict of guilty to Anar Mamedli, the head of the Centre for Election Monitoring and Democracy Training (CEM&DT), and activists Bashir Suleimanly and Elnur Mamedov. The Baku Court has sentenced Anar Mamedli to 5.5 years and Bashir Suleimanly to 3.5 years of imprisonment. Elnur Mamedov has been sentenced to 3.5 years of conditional sentence.
On June 12, appeals of all three sentenced activists were filed to the Baku Court on Grave Crimes. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Djavad Djavadly, the advocate of Anar Mamedli and Elnur Mamedov.
According to him, the Baku Court on Grave Crimes has 10 days to inform the prosecutors of the appeal against the verdict and to send the materials of the criminal case to the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA).
The advocate believes that the BCA will hold the preliminary hearing in the case "in late June or early July, and, maybe, later." All three activists ask the BCA to acquit them.
